From September 11 to 17, 1973, French President Pompidou paid a state visit to China at invitation. At that time, Zhou was in poor health and had been tortured by illness. So the guard wanted to give Zhou an umbrella. On Monday, he pushed away his umbrella and said angrily, "the French president didn't take an umbrella, and so many people are in the rain. Why can't we be like the people?" After hearing Zhou's words, the guards and the leaders behind felt embarrassed and put away their umbrellas one after another.
Zhou still works tenaciously despite his illness, and pays great attention to diplomatic etiquette and cares for and respects the masses, which makes everyone admire him.
